5 SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS FOR TRAVELLING

Travelling is one of those things that make us genuinely happy. I pack my bags ready to explore new places, or rediscover the ones that I have already been to, ready for an adventure and the unknown.

You know what they say: the suitcase is always filled with “just in case” products. This means that we tend to over pack. As packing represents one of the important aspects of travelling, we have decided to present you with five sustainable products that you should add to your suitcase.

You might ask yourself why sustainable? We should try to help the environment in order the further generations to also enjoy the views that you are able to enjoy today. So, let’s take a look at the five sustainable products that we find a great addition to your travel case.

1. Organic sunscreen

One of the main reasons why our skin ages, is because of its exposure to the sun. If you want to have a flawless face, without wrinkles, you should include applying sunscreen in your daily routine. This product should also be indispensible in any travel bag, as you do not want to ruin your holiday by rewarding yourself with horrible sunburn.

Why organic? Since you want to take care of your skin, and want what is best for it, it is better that you go organic. This means that all of the ingredients are natural, and the risk of irritated skin is reduced. In addition, if you go to a pool or the beach, the sunscreen won’t damage the environment, as the ingredients come from nature itself.

2. Reusable utensil set

For example, a reusable straw! Plastic is one of the materials with the most damaging effects on the environment. France, for example, has decided to prohibit the use of singe use plastics, in order to save our planet (Go France!!). If you want to pollute less while travelling, you should take your own set of reusable utensils. They can come in very handy.

Did you know? According to nbs.gov 500 million drinking straws are used every day in America. To give you a picture of 500 million really is, this would fill over 125 school buses with straws every day.

Why reusable? Well, for a fact, they are more hygienic. Just think about it. You do not know where the plastic utensils have been stored. Also, you do not know if they have been washed and given to you. You see, it is actually a win-win situation for you and the environment alike.

3. Bamboo handle toothbrush

While traveling we often divert back to convenience and simply use what is handed to us. Often one of those daily products we forget, however can’t live without is a toothbrush. Have you ever been handed a plastic toothbrush when travelling? They are everywhere. We use them for a couple of months (sometimes less if we leave them behind); and then throw them ‘away’. They end up in the landfill, and the damage made to the environment is irreversible.

What is the solution? A bamboo handle toothbrush. Why? In addition to it being the more stylish option, it is also fully degradable, as it is made out of all natural materials (bamboo). Oh, and you should not worry about any splinters. The handles are coated with wax, which prevents them from entering your skin.

4. Women’s single blade razor

Let’s face it, no matter how much we wax, or shave, some rebel hairs decide to appear in the most unwanted moments. When you are on vacation, you want to look and feel your best.

If you want a smooth skin, and a great look, we recommend that you add a sustainable metal razor to your suitcase. Why not a disposable one? Plastic razors should only be used for 1-5 times. This means that they are thrown afterwards, and again, straight to landfill they go. Also, in the long term, they end up being more costly, as you have to change the whole razor, as opposed to the sustainable ones, where you just change the blade. Ritology blade refills are as little as $1.50 to replace the blade! It’s out mission to reduce the number of plastic razors going to landfill each year (currently 2 billion in the USA alone).

5. Reusable Cup, coffee mug or mason jar

One of the best tips to avoid single use plastic is to take a reusable mug, cup or mason jar with you on your travels. Pop this one right at the top of your packing list, especially if you are one to grab takeaway beverages on your journey, going hand in hand with your straw and utensils. The super cute coffee mugs and smoothie cups are the perfect travel companion. With an extra bonus for those who opt for the mason jar is the lid sealable and reusable lid – safe for takeaway food and leftovers!

There are many other sustainable products we could suggest you can take with you in your travel case. These are just a few that we have found to be useful. We will post more soon!

So, I guess that now that you have your bags packed, you have to reserve a holiday, and enjoy your time.
